Everyday Matters
Since the drawing class I took last semester, I’ve been doing a lot of reading about drawing. The biggest thing I’ve learned is that you really can’t learn all that much about drawing by just reading, so I’m trying to draw more often. I joined the Everyday Matters group, and am going to work my way through the weekly challenges, starting right here, at week one. Challenge 1 is to draw a shoe. This is one of my sneakers, in graphite, on Bristol paper.

Nice shoe it really has a good solid feel to it.

The shading is okay, but the outlines, well, there shouldn’t be ANY outlines! The shadows have to meld, they shouldn’t be hard unless there is a stark contrast. Also your’es contrast should be more pronounced. The shdaing isn’t dynamic nor varied enough to show that the shoe is 3d, that is round, not flat, particulariliy in the heel & ankle area. Practice shading your basics shapes– spheres, cones, cubes, and remember, PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE.
